Cost of Attendance
The Overall student budget/Cost of Attendance for 2024-2025 ($74,397) includes an amount for tuition (outlined above, $46,870), books and supplies ($5,600), estimated living expenses ($21,927), and Yale Health Plan coverage costs (included in the living expense budget but outlined under the “Fees” section below, estimated $3,112 for 2024-2025).
Books and supplies costs can vary based on the program, year, and students needs for class books and/or materials & equipment needed throughout the year for school-related purchases.
The living expense budget for the 2024-2025 academic year (Sept - May) is $21,927. In other words, it is assumed that students at Yale School of Art can cover the cost of housing, utilities, food, health services, clothing and laundry, miscellaneous items, and in-school travel within a total budget of approximately $2,436 per month. It is expected that you will spend the greater part of your time in academic work; therefore, it is assumed that your lifestyle will be appropriate for a full-time student. To this end, you should be prepared to economize during your time here.

Housing and Dining
The Yale Housing Office has dormitory and apartment units available for graduate and professional students. Dormitories are single-occupancy and two-bedroom units of varying sizes and prices. They are located across the campus, from Edward S. Harkness Memorial Hall, serving the medical campus, to Helen Hadley Hall and the newly built 272 Elm Street, serving the central/science campus. Unfurnished apartments consisting of efficiencies and one, two, and three-bedroom apartments for singles and families are also available. Family housing is available in Whitehall and Esplanade Apartments. The Housing website (http://housing.yale.edu) is the venue for graduate housing information and includes dates, procedures, facility descriptions, floor plans, and rates. Applications for the new academic year are available beginning April 23 and can be submitted directly from the website.
The Yale Housing Office also manages the Off Campus Living listing service (http://offcampusliving.yale.edu ; 203.436.2881), which is the exclusive Yale service for providing off-campus rental and sales listings. This secure system allows members of the Yale community to search rental listings, review landlord/property ratings, and search for a roommate in the New Haven area. On-campus housing is limited, and members of the community should consider off-campus options. Yale University discourages the use of Craigslist and other third-party nonsecure websites for off-campus housing searches.
The Yale Housing Office is located in Helen Hadley Hall (HHH) at 420 Temple Street and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday; 203.432.2167.
Yale Hospitality has tailored its services to meet the particular needs of graduate and professional school students by offering meal plan options that allow flexibility and value. For up-to-date information on all options, costs, and residential and retail dining locations, visit http://hospitality.yale.edu. Inquiries concerning food services should be addressed to Yale Hospitality, 246 Church Street, PO Box 208261, New Haven CT 06520-8261; e-mail, yale.dining@yale.edu; tel., 203.432.0420.

Tuition Rebate and Refund Policy
On the basis of the federal regulations governing the return of federal student aid (Title IV) funds for withdrawn students, the rebate and refund of tuition are subject to the following policy:
For purposes of determining the refund of federal student aid funds, any student who withdraws from the School of Art for any reason during the first 60 percent of the term will be subject to a pro rata schedule that will be used to determine the amount of Title IV funds a student has earned at the time of withdrawal. A student who withdraws after the 60 percent point has earned 100 percent of the Title IV funds. In 2022-23, the last days for refunding federal student aid funds will be October 29 in the fall term and March 29 in the spring term.
For purposes of determining the refund of institutional aid funds and for students who have not received financial aid:
A. 100 percent of tuition will be rebated for withdrawals that occur on or before the end of the first 10 percent of the term (September 7, 2022, in the fall term and January 24, 2023, in the spring term).
B. A rebate of one-half (50 percent) of tuition will be granted for withdrawals that occur after the first 10 percent but on or before the last day of the first quarter of the term (September 23, 2022, in the fall term and February 8, 2023, in the spring term).
C. A rebate of one-quarter (25 percent) of tuition will be granted for withdrawals that occur after the first quarter of a term but on or before the day of midterm (October 19, 2022, in the fall term and March 4, 2023, in the spring term).
D. Students who withdraw for any reason after midterm will not receive a rebate of any portion of tuition.
The death of a student will cancel charges for tuition as of the date of death, and the bursar will adjust the tuition on a pro rata basis.
If the student has received student loans or other forms of financial aid, funds will be returned in the order prescribed by federal regulations; namely, first to Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans, if any; then to Federal Perkins Loans; then to Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loans; next to any other federal, state, private, or institutional scholarships and loans; and, finally, any remaining balance to the student.
Recipients of federal and/or institutional loans who withdraw are required to have an exit interview before leaving Yale. Students leaving Yale receive instructions on completing this process from Yale Student Financial Services.
