ART 782, Seminar on Design Strategy
Creativity is often enhanced by constraint. Design strategy is the deliberate application of constraint to achieve specific creative and communicative ends. Devising a framework at the outset of work sets both goals and metrics for its success. In this way strategy is schema: a representation of a plan or theory in the form of an outline or model. This seminar introduces concepts of design strategy through collaborative work on a real-world project. Together with a group of design strategists from the studio 2x4, the class works as a team alongside contemporary conceptual artist and Yale sculpture alumnus Tavares Strachan to devise, shape, and articulate the positioning, brand, and initial expression of the Oku Promise, an open grant/scholarship program for Bahamian high-school students founded by the artist.Editor details
