Ryan Sluggett, Lecturer in Painting/Printmaking

Ryan Sluggett received his BFA from AUArts, Alberta, Canada, 1999 and MFA from UCLA in 2008. His painting, drawing and animation installations explore themes that range from speculative Utopic narratives to the quotidian pressures of consumer culture. Sluggett has large-scale paintings in permanent collections including the Tang Teaching Museum, New York, the Booth Collection at the University of Chicago, the Rubell Family Collection, Miami, the Esker Foundation, Calgary, the Nickle Arts Museum, Calgary, and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles. Installations have been included in the 2007 Montreal Biennale, Crack the Sky and the 2012 Made In LA Biennial, Hammer Museum. Screenings of his animations have been shown at the Toronto International Film Festival, Contemporary Calgary, and are in the permanent collections of the Vancouver Art Gallery, British Columbia and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Canada. His work has been written about by Alexander Nagel, Jackson Arn and Nancy Tousley. Ryan Sluggett has taught painting, drawing and animation at UCLA, and UCRiverside as well as various non-profit art centers.Editor details
